Spindrift is composed of 100% Shetland wool and spun on the Island. It is a 2ply constructed yarn but knits to a gauge equivalent to a traditional 4ply. This yarn is ideal for all Fair Isle knitting from smaller projects all the way up to jumpers.

Neat 25g balls allow you to work several colour details into a project without too much left over. Many of our customers say that ‘a little bit of Jamieson’s goes a long way!’

Jamieson's, a family business with five generations specializing in Shetland sheep wool, was started in the early 1890s by Robert Jamieson. Each subsequent generation added their innovations, with Andrew Jamieson becoming an early wool broker, despite the wool being considered too delicate for industrial processing. The dream of 100% Shetland knitwear began to materialize when Bertie and Peter Jamieson, in 1978, achieved successful spinning of pure Shetland yarn, leading to the opening of Jamieson’s Spinning, the only commercial woollen mill in Shetland, in 1981. Despite challenges with a dwindling number of hand-knitters due to the oil boom, the brand harnessed computerized knitting technology, maintaining its reputation for traditional Fair Isle patterns in vibrant colours. Now in its 5th generation, Jamieson’s continues to produce and globally distribute high-quality Shetland knitwear, fabrics, and yarns.
